I’m here to spill on all the things I wish I’d known before embracing my natural hair and taking a dive into the natural hair journey. Let’s be real, the transition journey can be equal parts exciting and, well, discouraging. This post are things that you should consider and know before navigating your natural hair journey with confidence and a healthy dose of reality.


  1. There will be bad hair days. Invest in a hat.
  2. Hair stylists charge more if you tell them your hair is natural.  
  3. You will have to learn about your hair. 
  4. Product junkies are millionaires.
  5. It is hard to massage your scalp with thick hair. 
  6. Dollar Tree has the same hair accessories and tools as the Beauty Supply store.
  7. Your peers will ask you if you are mixed.
  8. Styling edges or baby hair can make any hairstyle look polished.
  9. Product buildup is something you will experience, and it looks like hair dandruff.
  10. Every curl does not look the same. 
  11. People can smell your hair when you walk by.
  12. Every gel is not created equally.
  13. Hair products have an expiration date even though it is not listed. 
  14. People will associate you with your hair.
  15. Hair mousse is not just for White people.
  16. People will stare at you because of your hair.
  17. YouTubers are paid to recommend products.
  18. People will touch your hair without asking.
  19. Wearing a sleek bun regularly can cause traction alopecia.
  20. Product price does not reflect product quality. 
  21. Using a line of products from one brand gives better results than mixing and matching brands.
  22. Most natural hair products are not made by Black people.
  23. You can use a wide tooth comb as a hair pick.
  24. Water grows hair better than any product on the market.
  25. Aussie Moist Conditioner is the best and most affordable hair detangler of all time.
  26. Natural hair products will ruin your pillowcases.
  27. Applying edge control daily can cause acne around your hairline.
  28. Your hair journey will inspire others around you.
