Solange Knowles is the first African American woman to compose an original piece for the New York City Ballet.
In honor of Solange’s big night, her sister Beyonce took to Instagram with a celebratory post. Beyonce’s post reads, “My beloved sister, there are no words to express the pride and admiration I have for you. You are a visionary and one of one. Congratulations on being the first African American woman to compose for the New York City Ballet. The piece you composed is phenomenal. I love you deep”.
Solange took to Twitter to express her joy for the outcome of her big night. She tweeted “bestttt nightttt heart so fullll”, along with a slideshow of images taken by Vogue.

Solange’s score is choreographed by Gianna Reisen and includes musical collaborators from Solange, herself, and members of the City Ballet orchestra. The score will be performed in October 2022 and May 2023.
