On August 18th, Pinterest launched its newest search tool with Black people and other people of color (POC) in mind. Pinterest’s newest search tool is named “hair pattern tool”. The hair pattern tool allows Pinners to search for images by hair type. The days of scrolling through the app for hours to find curly and/or coily hairstyles are over.

Now when you search trends like “back to school hairstyles” or “braided hairstyles” you can narrow your search by the following six hair types: protective, coily, curly, wavy, straight, and shaved/bald.

This search tool cuts down on the time it takes to find hairstyle inspiration on the app. We can all save time and feel included on this app thanks to “vision-powered object detection” technology. This technology allows the categorization of the images into the six hair types listed above.

The hair pattern tool is available today in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
