A twist out is a hairstyle that I could never get right. I have experienced unraveling my twist and realizing the curls did not form. I have also experienced unraveling a perfect twist out that is covered in flakes. Or even better I would wake up to a fluffy twist out with straight ends. It is safe to say that I have spent a lot of time trying to perfect this hairstyle. Now that I have gotten to this point, I would like to share with you how to get the perfect twist out every time.

How To Get The Perfect Twist Out At Home?

Step 1: Dampen Your Hair

Start with freshly washed hair that is slightly wet. Dampen your hair with a spray bottle as it begins to dry.

Step 2: Detangle Your Hair

Section your hair with alligator clips. Use your fingers to detangle each section followed by a wide tooth comb to ensure the section is tangle-free. (This step requires you to detangle your hair with no products. If your hair tangles easily, use your product of choice to detangle your hair with ease).

Step 3: Apply Your Products

Continue to work in sections to complete the steps listed below.

Apply your hair milk of choice to moisturize your hair. Then apply your hair styler of choice, which will hold the shape of the curls you will be forming with twists. (Your hair styler of choice can be a twist cream or gel. Both products work well. If you use gel, be sure not to use too much gel. You do not want to wake up to flakes in your hair). Lastly, apply hair oil to your hair to seal in the moisture.

Step 4: Twist Your Hair

Continue to work in sections to complete the steps listed below.

You can create the curls of your dreams with the right combination of twist size and twisting method. With any twist method you choose, be sure to add a flexi rod to the end of your twist. The flexi rod will make sure that your twist does not unravel and that your ends are curled.

Twist Size: You can create small, medium, or large twists based on how you section your hair. The size of the twist will affect the size of the twist out curls. The smaller the twist, the tighter the curls. The larger the twist, the looser the curls.

Twisting Method: You can choose between two types of twist to install. You can install two strand twists or three strand twists. The twisting method will affect the look of the curls.

Step 5: Unravel Your Hair

Squeeze each twist from root to end to make sure your hair is completely dry. If you squeeze out any amount of water, your hair is not dry. You can continue to let your hair air dry or use a blow dryer to speed up the drying time. Once your hair is dry, apply hair oil to your fingertips and unravel each twist. Use a hair pick or wide tooth comb to fluff out your hair to your desired look.
