The Black Hair Experience Pop-Up Museum is here to rewrite the rules of museums. This is not your average exhibit.
The Black Hair Experience was created to celebrate the hair care and styling of Black hair through the decades. With the constant controversy of Black hair, the Black Hair Experience is a refreshing place to go because it’s a celebration of Black hair in all its glory: twists, coils, blowouts and bantu knots.
The pop-up museum has over 20 interactive installations that are dedicated to the eras of Black hair. As seen on Instagram, the museum includes must see installations like a hair roller pit and a curtain made from hair beads. Or my personal favorite a swing made from two giant braids. Visitors can pose for photos in each of the installations. At the end of the museum installation, visitors have the option to purchase hair care products and clothing.
Be sure to visit the museum before it is too late! The pop-up museum is open Thursday through Sunday at the National Harbor until November 2021.
