The Black Hair Experience is a pop-up museum that arrived in the district back in June of 2021. The museum is open Thursday through Sunday at the National Harbor. You have until November to visit the museum before its gone.
The Black Hair Experience was created to celebrate the hair care and styling of Black hair through the decades. With the constant controversy of Black hair, the Black Hair Experience is a refreshing place to go. It creates a nostalgic experience that celebrates the evolution and versatility of Black hair.
The pop-up museum has over 20 interactive installations that are dedicated to the eras of Black hair. As seen on Instagram, the museum includes Instagrammable installations like a hair roller pit and a curtain made from hair beads. Or my personal favorite a swing made from two giant braids. Visitors can pose for photos in each of the installations.
Visitors also have the option of purchasing hair care products and clothing at the end of their visit.
Be sure to visit the museum before it is too late and comment your experience below.
